How you can wRite on the Spot

wRite on the Spot is a tool designed by the team of Released Expressions to help overcome Writer’s Block. In those moments when the pages are screaming at us to take our words and we have nothing to offer, this tool gives us the break that’s needed.

All this happens on the spot. We believe that writing is not just a tool to express oneself but a means of sharing what’s in our heart. So when we are at a roadblock to sharing those thoughts, here’s how we do it at Released Expressions.

The rules are simple. Here’s how you can wRite on the Spot.

  1. Start with the first 3 words that come to mind
  2. Write them down numbering 1 to 3
  3. Think of 3 other words
  4. Write them down numbering 4 to 6
  5. Think of 1 final word
  6. Write that down as number 7
  7. Using the words you have listed, start to write

Here’s an example.

  1. cloud
  2. wind
  3. rain
  4. window
  5. hollowing
  6. gray
  7. mystery

These words came out of me sitting my table, behind my laptop and drinking a cup of coffee. To my right is my balcony facing west. As I glance in the distance and in that moment I could see the clouds, hear the wind, observe the rain, through my window. With the door open, the hollowing wind and moving gray skies. All this shaped in my mind a mystery. Out of those words, I share Joy Tomorrow.

Joy Tomorrow

From the view through my window I sit,
as I listen to the wind’s mysterious lift,
hollowing a song I couldn’t imagine,
with gray skies, the distant rain scratching.

Will the clouds uncover,
the mystery of my long awaited lover,
where is the rain, my tears, no pain,
but the joy of your touch for tomorrow.
